Sound On Sound Review

April 27, 2010 Bloggies by Administrator

The new May edition of Sound On Sound features an in-depth review of Cinematic Strings.

A few nice quotes from it:

"its sound is second to none, and the quality, directness, real‑time playability and musical potency of its sections are compelling reasons to buy it."

"...it delivers a top‑class sound on a budget most professionals won’t  consider too steep"

"A highly effective, great‑sounding, intelligently‑programmed library of decent‑sized string sections playing their lush sustains, tough, driving staccatos and smooth legatos in a nice hall acoustic with a choice of three mikings — what more could a busy media composer chasing a deadline want?"

Cinematic Strings 1.5 Update

April 27, 2010 Bloggies by Alex Wallbank

Version 1.5, the first significant update for Cinematic Strings has been released. It features a number of minor bug fixes and tweaks, but most importantly the legato system has been reworked. It's now much easier to create smooth flowing melodic lines. To get the update, login to the website and click on the "Updates" button up in the top menu bar.

The demo below was created entirely with the new version 1.5 patches, by using an equal blend of close and stage mikes:

This is a mockup of a stirring piece by Bear McCreary, which he wrote for the show Battlestar Galactica. It should be noted that the lines were all played in one by one, with minimal MIDI editing applied afterwards - and so the whole thing didn't really take that long to create. This is the strength of CS - instant playability, and therefore, efficiency.
